Dig Into the Word

Learning to study the Bible is crucial, but grasping it all in one sitting can be overwhelming. So, let’s start on a journey of understanding.

  1. The first step is to Hear God’s Word, which can be achieved through various means such as listening to preaching, teaching, and even accessing content on platforms like YouTube.
  2. Next comes the crucial Meditation process, where we ruminate on the Scriptures. We should think deeply about them, chew on their meaning, and allow them to move us toward a point of revelation.
  3. Through this process of revelation, genuine understanding comes to light, allowing us to comprehend the profound meaning of the Word.
  4. The next step is to practice the revealed truth and apply it in our lives. This practical application, also known as Homiletics, involves living out what we have learned from the Scriptures. For example, I preach about topics I have personally received revelation on because they have become real to me, and I am steadfast in my beliefs.
  5. Application is the key that leads to manifestation, marking a point of maturity and fulfillment in our spiritual growth.

This same process applies when we receive a prophetic Word over our lives. For instance, when a prophet spoke to me at 23 about becoming the mayor of Tyrone, I was initially hesitant. However, I stepped into that role six years later because I practiced and applied the revealed truth. Application is essential, as it guards against the pride that revelation, on its own, can sometimes breed. Humility is gained through the process of practicing what we have been shown by trusting God.

It is vital to avoid getting stuck solely on revelation; we have to progress to application. Sermons and teachings will only have the desired impact if we put them into practice. To truly bring the Word to life, we must apply it in our marriages, relationships with our children, and every aspect of our daily existence.

In our journey of studying the Bible, we should learn about hermeneutics and exegesis, but time constraints might limit our in-depth exploration. Reading the Bible in a year offers breadth but not always depth. However, keeping a notebook and jotting down our observations on the overall themes is beneficial. Later, the Holy Spirit may illuminate those notes, prompting us to delve deeper into specific passages.

As we progress in our studies, we’ll recognize recurring themes and connections between chapters, enabling us to apply the timeless wisdom of the Scriptures to our daily lives. During our time in the Word, we should take notes, underline key points, and circle important words and themes. We can explore how the New Testament relates to the Old, making connections that offer life-changing insights. If you still need to start this journey, there’s no better day than today. I pray that everyone reading this finds time daily in the Word.
