Do You Honor Well?
As Father’s Day passes, I want to reflect on the significance of continually honoring both our fathers and others. The words of Romans 12:10 resonate deeply, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Honoring someone is an act, a way to show sincere appreciation for their presence and impact. It involves recognizing and valuing their worth, often regarding their position or authority.
To honor someone means to give them preference, to care for their well-being, and to offer them your undivided attention. It goes beyond mere actions and resides in the depths of the heart. It is a genuine display of admiration, reflecting how we regard others.
So the question becomes, where is your heart position regarding honor?
On the other hand, while it often accompanies honor, respect is earned through actions, character, and integrity. While we may not always have respect for every individual, we can choose to honor them regardless of our personal sentiments. Even when we find it challenging to respect those in positions of authority, we are still called to honor them according to the teachings of the Word.
I encourage you to reflect on your own heart’s position when it comes to honoring others. Do you honor well, even when respect may be lacking? It is an ongoing journey that requires thought and a willingness to cultivate a heart of honor.
For those who may not have a deep respect for their fathers, I pray that as the hearts of the fathers turn toward their children, we will witness a transformation in the children’s hearts as well. May the bonds of love and honor be strengthened, fostering relationships characterized by mutual respect and deep appreciation.
Let’s strive to live a life abundant in respect and honor in all aspects. May our actions, words, and intentions be guided by the commandments of the Lord, and may we continuously seek to honor one another in love.
