Do You Hear His Voice?
People often want to know how to hear God’s voice and discern.
It’s an essential question. For example, this Sunday, we will pray for those dealing with Covid or vaccine injuries because that’s where I believe I am being directed. Whether Covid or vaccine injury, we need to pray for healing. He is a healer for the ailments happening today. We can be intentional in our healing requests, and we can hear from Him on what steps to take.
So how does God speak and direct us in this way?
- He speaks through His Word. That’s the primary place to go and measure how we live our lives. Reading the Bible will help you to understand His voice.
- He speaks through his Holy Spirit – dreams, visits, prophecies, angelic visits, and even, though rarely, his audible voice. He’s been visiting us this way since he left us. Man-made religion added laws that led us to believe this isn’t for today. This confusion happened with the Sagacees and Pharisees. Some religious people didn’t believe even at the time of Jesus. That’s a removal of anything spiritual. But, read the Bible; it happened a lot and was very directive. And it happens today.
- He speaks through prayer.
- Ask during prayer and expect to hear His answer.
- He speaks through His ordained leaders.
- You will hear His voice through preaching and teaching. If you focus on what’s true, you will hear Him. If you are seeking man before God, you will run into problems. Your leaders should be secondary to the above. You must seek and listen to Him first. Leaders can help you discern.
- He speaks through church history in patterns and sequences. This knowledge helps us to avoid pitfalls because we can learn from those patterns. Some organizations put church history and leaders at the same level as His Word. We need to be careful of that.
- He speaks through His church body and other believers. Jesus is the chief cornerstone. We need to make Him the foundation and then build out.
In the Word for you Today, Bob Gast says.
Hearing the voice of God changes everything.
1. Hear from God before you consider the needs of others. He is the answer. 1st Corinthians 1:23
2. Hear from God before you entertain the ideas of others. Proverbs 16:9. It’s easier to get into things than out of them.
3. Hear from God before you listen to the complaints of others. Turn them over to God and get back into focus. Isaiah 26:3
4. Hear from God before you make any significant change in your life. God knows what He wants for your life…you need to discover what it is. Isaiah 30:21
5. Hear His voice before you respond to others. Test the soil before you sow. Your seed is too precious to waste. Don’t give love, time, and money to the wrong things. 1st Kings 3:9.
You should ALWAYS seek God first. Then, pray about it. Don’t expect your pastors to give you answers first because they are NOT God. Yes, they are there to shepherd and guide. You should ask them for guidance on what you have planned out once you have done the above – make notes and meet with them prepared for guidance. If you don’t want to do the work yourself and build a relationship with Christ, a pastor can’t do it for you.
Seek His voice and let the peace of Christ rule in your heart!!!
